Why should your rescue be in the 2018 Calendar? I met Winston Churchill, then “Mikey” at the 2016 Chili Cook Off. It had been 18 months since the death of my husband of 30 years. My son moved back to Charleston from his life in Chicago. By this time, I had accepted a new position working from my new home. I had not had a pet since I was a teenager but knew that a dog would bring more life and love into our new lives. My “dog friends” had advised me to be careful and do not choose the first dog you see. But of course, Winston was the first dog I met. After looking into his eyes, I knew he was to be part of our family. I know that we were giving him a home but in reality he was giving us a new life. He is loving, smart, funny and just outrageous sometimes. I want others who may be feeling lost or have experienced loss to know that there are so many wonderful animals that need to be cared for and loved. But, in truth, we are the ones who are rescued by these wonderful little beings.
